Israeli Forces Assault Children, Journalists at West Bank Playground

(MENAFN) Israeli settlers reportedly assault Palestinian children and journalists, including foreign reporters, at a playground in southern Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, after which Israeli forces declare the area a closed military zone.

According to reports, settlers arrive at the playground in Khirbet Umm al-Khair, located in the Masafer Yatta area, and attack children who are using the community facility. Israeli soldiers and police then enter the site, designate it a “closed military zone” and force children, journalists, residents and activists to leave.

Israeli forces remain deployed inside the playground and continue preventing children from accessing the area.

The playground is reportedly the community’s only recreational facility for children. Although the outdoor space has been available for years, it has recently undergone renovations and received new equipment.

The location has also faced repeated attacks by Israeli settlers and security forces. Activists say it is the same site where activist Odeh al-Hathaleen was killed a year ago.

According to reports, Israel’s Civil Administration issued a demolition order for the site in January, arguing that the playground had been constructed in Area C under the Oslo Accords.
