Israel Shells Southern Syria Near Quneitra
(MENAFN) Israeli forces fire six artillery shells at the outskirts of Al-Rafid in southern Syria’s Quneitra countryside on Saturday, according to reports, with no immediate casualties or material damage reported.
Earlier in the day, a group of five Israeli military vehicles reportedly moved toward the outskirts of Al-Rafid before pulling back from the area. No arrests are reported during the operation.
The shelling comes amid continued Israeli military activity across southern Syria. Israeli forces also fire two artillery rounds Thursday near Tal al-Ahmar in southern Quneitra.
Reports say Israeli troops detained a shepherd west of Al-Rafid on Tuesday, although he was released several hours later.
Quneitra and Daraa provinces have experienced repeated Israeli operations in recent months, including raids, searches, detentions and the deployment of military checkpoints.
Last month, Israeli fighter jets reportedly conducted eight attacks against the runway of the Abu al-Duhur Military Airbase in northwestern Idlib, damaging parts of its infrastructure.
Israeli military operations in Syria have increased since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024. Israel subsequently announced that it considered the 1974 disengagement agreement to have collapsed and moved to take control of the Syrian buffer zone.
