Fetterman Faces Questions Over Senate Role, Israel Advocacy

(MENAFN) US Sen. John Fetterman faces growing criticism from former aides and fellow lawmakers over what they describe as limited participation in his Senate responsibilities, while he increasingly devotes attention to conservative media appearances and advocacy for Israel.

The Pennsylvania Democrat reportedly maintains a relatively light schedule and frequently turns down or cancels meetings with constituents and other lawmakers.

Fetterman has also missed a significant number of committee hearings and become increasingly distant from members of his own party. His political positioning has prompted speculation that he could leave the Democratic Party, although he denied in May that he was considering such a move.

Accounts from more than a dozen former staff members and lawmakers, along with internal communications and records, reportedly describe a high turnover of aides who have worked to preserve the appearance of a fully functioning Senate office.

Fetterman, who suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2022, has meanwhile become one of the more prominent congressional supporters of Israel and regularly appears on conservative media platforms. His increasingly pro-Israel stance has widened his distance from progressive Democrats, while attracting greater support from Republicans and advocates for Israel.
