Putin Concludes Talks with US Envoys on Ukraine Conflict
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin meets with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow on Saturday for talks focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The discussions at the Kremlin last around three hours before Witkoff and Kushner leave the presidential complex, according to reports. Neither Moscow nor Washington immediately provides details about the outcome of the negotiations. The meeting reportedly begins at around 7.55 pm local time (1655GMT).
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev also take part in the discussions.
Before the talks begin, Putin describes the situation facing the negotiators as "certainly complex," while saying that US President Donald Trump continues trying to bring the conflict to an end despite being in a “difficult situation.”
"Today, we will discuss all its components, all aspects, and we, for our part, are ready to inform you of our view of the situation," he says, adding that such contacts are “always beneficial.”
Witkoff expresses appreciation to Putin for agreeing to a three-day ceasefire during his and Kushner’s visits to Moscow and Kyiv.
During the meeting, Witkoff also passes along the thanks of former US Marine Robert Gilman’s family for Moscow’s assistance in securing his return. Gilman had been detained in Russia since 2022 before being released by Moscow last month.
