Ukrainian Drone Strikes Kill One, Wound Four Across Russian Regions

(MENAFN) Russia said Sunday that overnight Ukrainian airstrikes left one person dead and four others wounded across several regions of the country.

A Ukrainian drone slammed into a car in the village of Golovchino, in Russia's Belgorod region, killing one person and injuring another, the regional operations headquarters reported on Telegram.

Elsewhere, drones struck the Rostov region, damaging two apartment buildings and wounding three people, regional Governor Yury Slyusar said, also via Telegram. Slyusar characterized the strikes as a "massive air attack," noting that 30 drones had been shot down.

A separate incident in the Ryazan region saw a drone crash spark a fire at an industrial plant. Gov. Pavel Malkov, writing on Telegram, said there were no early indications of injuries there.

Nationwide, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed 258 drones were intercepted and destroyed, including over the annexed Crimean peninsula and across the Sea of Azov and Black Sea.

In a related development, a Russian air assault on border infrastructure near a crossing with Romania led to a temporary halt in operations at the Orlivka checkpoint, according to the operational headquarters of the Izmail Regional State Administration, which relayed the news on Telegram.

Given the fog of the ongoing war, independent verification of claims made by either side remains elusive.

The strikes came as diplomatic efforts continued on a separate track: US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, arrived in Moscow on Saturday. The pair are due in Kyiv on Sunday, continuing US-brokered efforts to broker an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
