Israeli Gunfire Wounds Child, Man in West Bank Raids
(MENAFN) Two Palestinians — among them a child — were wounded by gunfire from the Israeli army early Sunday during military raids across the northern occupied West Bank cities of Jenin and Qalqilya, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported.
The organization said its medical teams responded to treat a 50-year-old man struck by live ammunition in the hand and leg during an Israeli raid in the Al-Jabriyat area of Jenin. He was subsequently transferred to a hospital for further treatment, the group said.
A separate incident unfolded in Qalqilya, where a Palestinian child was shot in the thigh with live fire during an Israeli military operation in the city. The child was also hospitalized, according to the Red Crescent.
Since the Gaza war erupted in October 2023, the occupied West Bank has been gripped by near-daily Israeli military raids alongside a mounting wave of attacks by occupiers.
These operations, carried out by the Israeli army and settlers alike, have included killings and mass arrests of Palestinians, the demolition of homes, the destruction of farmland, and forced displacement — compounded by the continued expansion of Israeli settlements.
Palestinians have cautioned that these actions are laying the groundwork for Israel's formal annexation of the West Bank, a move they say would deal a severe blow to prospects for establishing a Palestinian state as envisioned under relevant UN resolutions.
