Israel Strikes South Lebanon, Breaching June Truce Deal

(MENAFN) The Israeli military launched a fresh wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday, the latest breach of a US-brokered framework agreement reached in June, Lebanese media reported.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) said Israeli aircraft bombed the town of Mansouri, south of Tyre, though no details on casualties or damage were immediately available.

NNA reported that Israeli forces also carried out several detonations on the outskirts of Mansouri, including one involving a barrel packed with powerful explosives — a blast loud enough to be heard in nearby villages.

Israeli warplanes struck Mansouri twice more in quick succession, hitting several homes in the town. NNA said the bombardment left widespread destruction in its wake.

Elsewhere, artillery shelling was reported in the Salouki and Hujair valleys in Nabatieh province, while in Beirut, an Israeli drone was spotted flying at low altitude over the capital's southern suburbs, according to the same source.

In the Marjayoun district, NNA said Israeli forces caused destruction in the town of Bani Hayyan, though further details were not disclosed.

Israeli aircraft also hit the town of Kfour in Nabatieh, completely destroying the former home of late Lebanese lawmaker Habib Sadek — a building that had housed an art and cultural museum, a literary library, and a collection of paintings.

The strikes come amid ongoing Israeli escalation throughout southern Lebanon, despite a Beirut-Tel Aviv agreement calling for a phased Israeli withdrawal as part of a US-mediated negotiation process.

Lebanese authorities say Israeli attacks since March have killed more than 4,000 people and injured over 12,000 others, while displacing more than 1 million people from their homes.
