Hundreds March in Stockholm Demanding Real Gaza Ceasefire
(MENAFN) Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Stockholm on Saturday to protest Israel's continued attacks and violations in Gaza.
Protesters assembled in the Odenplan area, calling for concrete action to stop what they described as attempts to undermine the ceasefire process in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Carrying Palestinian flags and banners demanding an immediate, permanent ceasefire, the crowd marched from Odenplan Square to the Swedish parliament, chanting slogans of solidarity with Palestinians and urging bystanders to raise their voices in support.
The march was briefly disrupted when a pro-Israel woman attacked demonstrators; police detained her at the scene.
Swedish activist Jorgen Helgesson told media that protesters had been turning out for weeks because, in his assessment, what is currently being labeled a ceasefire doesn't function as one in practice.
He cited ongoing civilian deaths in Gaza and mounting tensions in the occupied West Bank as evidence, while criticizing what he called an inadequate response from Western nations, Sweden included.
Helgesson also pushed back against conflating criticism of the Israeli government with antisemitism, insisting that demonstrators were opposing violence against civilians and breaches of international law — not targeting a religion or ethnicity.
