US Forces Destroy Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Missile Attacks
(MENAFN) US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Saturday that American forces struck and disabled three Iranian crude oil tankers following ballistic missile attacks launched by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against two US Navy vessels operating in regional waters.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said a US aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer managed to evade several Iranian attacks, with no American personnel reported injured.
The command said US forces permanently disabled the M/T Downy near Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 off Jask. They also destroyed the empty M/T Kylo, also known as the “Noxen,” in the Gulf of Oman after its crew had been instructed to leave the vessel.
CENTCOM described the targeted ships as part of a “multibillion-dollar shadow network” that allegedly generates funding for the IRGC and its regional allies.
“Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost -- taking out three of yours,” CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said.
“We will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran’s limited and exposed oil fleet,” he added.
Iran’s state broadcaster also confirmed that three Iranian oil tankers had been targeted by US forces, saying one was struck near Kharg Island in the Gulf while two others were attacked off Jask in the Sea of Oman.
