Gideon Levy Calls West Bank Attacks a Systematic Displacement Campaign
(MENAFN) Israeli journalist and writer Gideon Levy says escalating attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank form part of an organized effort to force Palestinians from their homes and communities.
“You see, there is a whole thinking behind it. Sure, that’s an attempt for an ethnic cleansing of the West Bank, and it is systematic, and it is backed by the Israeli authorities, no doubt,” Levy said in an interview.
The number of reported attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians increases from 1,291 in 2023 to 1,449 in 2024 and 1,835 in 2025. A further 761 incidents are recorded during the first four months of 2026.
More than 90% of cases opened by Israeli police against settlers reportedly end without indictments, while convictions account for only about 3%, fueling accusations that perpetrators effectively operate with impunity.
Levy says the strategy involves gradually pressuring Palestinians to leave the West Bank, initially targeting shepherds and smaller communities before extending the pressure to villages and residential structures.
