Putin Orders Temporary Halt to Kyiv Strikes
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin orders a three-day suspension of strikes against Kyiv beginning at midnight local time (2100GMT), according to reports.
The decision comes ahead of a planned visit to the Ukrainian capital by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump.
“Russian President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Putin ordered no strikes on Kyiv for three days, effective midnight today. This is due to American talks in Kyiv,” he said.
Putin is also expected to meet with Witkoff and Kushner later Saturday as part of discussions focused on efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
"The meeting with the president will indeed take place. There will be a discussion. As a rule, they have been quite lengthy before," he said.
Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow earlier Saturday for negotiations aimed at advancing efforts to end the conflict. They are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday, marking their first visit to the Ukrainian capital after their Moscow meetings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv will refrain from launching attacks during the US envoys’ visit to Russia. He also calls on Moscow to adopt a similar approach once the two representatives arrive in Ukraine.
