Rescuers Find Survivors Ten Days After Nepal Floods
(MENAFN) A Chinese national and a 64-year-old Nepali woman are rescued alive on Saturday, 10 days after being trapped by devastating flash floods and mudslides along the Nepal-China border.
The Chinese citizen, identified as Luhaitao, is discovered roughly 225 meters (738 feet) inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project by a joint team involving Nepali military personnel and international rescuers. He is taken for medical evaluation after being brought to safety, according to reports.
The rescue comes as teams continue searching the hydropower facility for others who may still be trapped. Two additional people are rescued from the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project on Friday.
At least six hydropower facilities on Nepal’s side of the border are affected by the floods, with search operations continuing as authorities account for around 900 workers deployed across the damaged sites.
Elsewhere, Chandika Kumari Shrestha, 64, is discovered unconscious inside a home buried under debris in Bidur Municipality-10. A nine-member Armed Police Force team carries out the rescue operation and brings her to safety.
Shrestha is then transported by helicopter to the Nepali Army’s Maithili Barracks in Trishuli, where she receives medical treatment.
