Vietnam, Myanmar Strengthen Defense, Security Cooperation
(MENAFN) Vietnam and Myanmar agree to deepen cooperation in defense and security during talks between their leaders in Hanoi on Saturday.
The agreement is reached during a meeting between Vietnamese President To Lam and Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing, according to reports.
The two countries plan to expand cooperation involving the training and exchange of young military officers, as well as joint efforts in search and rescue operations and disaster response.
They also agree to improve the exchange of information and coordination in addressing cross-border threats, including transnational crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, high-tech offenses and online scams.
Both leaders pledge to prevent individuals or organizations from using “one country’s territory against the other.”
To Lam offers to share Vietnam’s experience in economic development and international integration, while Min Aung Hlaing says Myanmar will support Vietnamese investment and calls for broader cooperation in agriculture, telecommunications, technology, energy and infrastructure.
The two sides also agree to increase engagement through regional and international platforms, including ASEAN and cooperation mechanisms covering the Mekong subregion.
