Ferry Accident Death Toll Rises in Northern Cyprus
(MENAFN) The number of people killed in a ferry accident off Girne, also known as Kyrenia, in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus rises to 13, while 15 others remain missing, according to authorities.
“With the recovery of the latest body, the number of our people who lost their lives in the accident has risen to 13, while the number of our missing people is now 15,” Ustel said.
Rescue teams continue searching for those still unaccounted for after the Filo Jet passenger ferry capsizes off Girne while traveling from Girne Port toward Tasucu in Mersin, Türkiye.
The vessel sinks last Sunday, Aug. 30, shortly after leaving Girne, with 267 people aboard at the time of the accident. Rescue and recovery operations remain underway as authorities work to locate the missing passengers.
