Anak Krakatau Erupts, Sends Volcanic Ash Into Air
(MENAFN) Indonesia’s Mount Anak Krakatau erupts overnight into Saturday, sending volcanic rocks and ash into the atmosphere, according to the country’s Geological Agency.
“As of today, September 5, 2026, at 4:40 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, the eruption is still ongoing, and rumbling can still be heard from the Krakatau Pasauran PGA Post,” the agency said in a statement.
The volcanic activity has continued since July 2, when authorities raised the volcano’s alert level to Level III, according to reports.
Although the height of the eruption column could not be determined, the plume was clearly visible with a bright red glow, reports said.
Seismic monitoring also detects activity associated with the eruption beginning Friday morning. The recorded tremors reach a maximum amplitude of 33 millimeters and last for 14 seconds.
Three additional eruptions take place Friday morning before the activity temporarily subsides. Another sequence of eruptions is then recorded later that evening.
