Malaysian Government Considers Calls for Early Election
(MENAFN) Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says calls for holding an early general election will be taken into consideration, while emphasizing that his administration remains focused on carrying out its responsibilities.
The prime minister says the government is prioritizing economic recovery, improving living standards and strengthening efforts to combat corruption and the misuse of power, according to reports.
Anwar maintains that the federal government remains stable and has a clear mandate to continue managing the country effectively.
“As I told the Cabinet on Wednesday, we have a mandate to govern the country, and to eradicate corruption and abuse of power,” Anwar said.
He also stresses that the campaign against corruption is intended to serve all communities across Malaysia rather than favoring any particular ethnic or regional group.
“Whether they are Malay, Chinese or Indian, or from Sabah or Sarawak, this is not a matter of race, protecting positions or any particular group,” he said.
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional coalition Secretary-General Zambry Abd Kadir reaffirms the coalition’s support for the unity government and its commitment to preserving political stability, in line with earlier pledges.
