Dozens of Anti-Netanyahu Protests Sweep Northern Israel
(MENAFN) Dozens of demonstrations erupted across northern Israel on Saturday, targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, according to Israeli media reports.
Maariv reported that protesters converged at dozens of separate locations to voice opposition to the government and its contentious judicial overhaul. Israeli media identified several of the cities involved, including Nahariya, Rosh Pina, Karmiel, Hadera, and Haifa.
The judicial overhaul, launched by Netanyahu's government in early 2023, aims to limit the Supreme Court's authority while expanding political control over judicial appointments—a push that ignited months of sustained mass protest when it was first introduced.
Adding to the pressure, opposition parties and segments of the Israeli public have continued pressing for a state commission of inquiry into the security failures surrounding the October 2023 attacks carried out by Hamas, a demand Netanyahu's government has consistently rejected.
Netanyahu, meanwhile, remains on trial on corruption charges. In November 2024, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.
Since the war began in October 2023, at least 73,651 Palestinians have been killed and 174,575 injured in Gaza, according to figures from the Gaza Health Ministry.
