Yemeni Army Strikes Houthi Camp in Al-Jawf, Claims Major Blow
(MENAFN) Yemen's national army announced Sunday that it had carried out a strike on a Houthi military installation in the northern province of Al-Jawf, saying the operation dealt significant damage to the group's fighting capacity.
Military spokesman Majid al-Nuzaili identified the target as the Al-Labanat camp, stating that the strike made use of “specialized capabilities” recently introduced into service.
Speaking in a statement aired on state television, al-Nuzaili said the assault destroyed Houthi capabilities and neutralized personnel, though he stopped short of disclosing which weapons systems were deployed or how many fighters were killed or wounded.
The strike comes against the backdrop of a fragile calm that has held in Yemen since April 2022, when a truce paused nearly 12 years of brutal conflict pitting government forces—backed by a Saudi-led military coalition—against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement. The Houthis seized Sanaa and swept through large swaths of Yemeni territory back in 2014, triggering the war.
That uneasy stability has grown increasingly precarious since late 2023, when the outbreak of war in Gaza pulled the Houthis deeper into the region's broader conflicts. The group has since launched repeated attacks on Israel and on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea. A recent uptick in hostilities has fueled growing concern that Yemen could be sliding back toward full-blown war.
