Putin Meets US Envoys Witkoff, Kushner in Moscow Over Ukraine War
(MENAFN) A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on the Ukraine conflict wrapped up in Moscow on Saturday.
Russian outlets, including a state news agency, reported that Witkoff and Kushner left the Kremlin after roughly three hours of talks, which the news agency said began around 7.55 pm local time (1655GMT). Neither side offered immediate comment on what was discussed.
Also present at the meeting were Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov and presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
Speaking ahead of the talks, Putin described the matter at hand as "certainly complex," noting that Trump continues pushing to end the war despite having entered a "difficult situation." "Today, we will discuss all its components, all aspects, and we, for our part, are ready to inform you of our view of the situation," Putin said, adding that the contacts have been "always beneficial."
Witkoff thanked Putin for agreeing to a three-day ceasefire to coincide with his and Kushner's visits to Moscow and Kyiv. He also relayed gratitude from the family of former US Marine Robert Gilman, who was held in Russia since 2022 before being released by Moscow last month, for Putin's role in securing his return.
Witkoff and Kushner touched down at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport on Saturday and are due to travel to Kyiv on Sunday — their first visit there.
Trump said Friday that Kushner and Witkoff were not heading to Moscow with new ideas, but rather "a proposal to end the war," though he declined to elaborate on its contents. The envoys' last trip to Moscow was in late January.
