CM Vijay Salutes Police Personnel On Tamil Nadu Police Day
In a message posted on social media, Vijay said the observance commemorated the enactment of the Madras District Police Act in 1859, a landmark measure that paved the way for the establishment of a modern and organised police force in the region.
The Chief Minister said police personnel perform an indispensable public service by preventing crime and maintaining law and order. Their responsibilities, he noted, extend well beyond routine policing, particularly when communities face emergencies, hazardous situations or natural disasters.
Police officers repeatedly place themselves at risk to protect the lives, property and rights of the people, Vijay said. Their bravery and sacrifices while serving on the ground deserve enduring recognition and appreciation from society, he added.
Conveying his heartfelt wishes to all members of the force, the Chief Minister said their selfless work was essential for ensuring social peace and firmly establishing the rule of law.
He acknowledged that police personnel often discharge demanding duties under difficult conditions and carry substantial professional responsibilities. Vijay said his government would give priority to measures aimed at reducing the workload faced by police personnel.
It would also seek to improve their efficiency by equipping the force with modern technological facilities, enabling officers to respond more effectively to changing policing requirements and public safety challenges. The government would simultaneously ensure that necessary welfare programmes were available to police personnel and their families, he said.
The statement placed emphasis on both professional modernisation and the personal well-being of those serving in the department. The Police Day message presented these commitments as part of the administration's broader responsibility to support the force while strengthening law enforcement. Better technology, manageable workloads and dependable family welfare measures are expected to help personnel perform their duties with greater effectiveness and confidence.
Vijay concluded by saluting police personnel serving throughout Tamil Nadu and recognising their role in safeguarding communities during ordinary times as well as crises. He thanked officers for their steadfast public service. Their continuing service, he said, remained central to public order, citizens' security, and the protection of fundamental rights.
