Watersound Fountains Resident, 96, Shares Her Secret To A Long, Healthy Life
WATERSOUND, Fla. (August 27, 2026) – If you ask Dorothy Nagy what her secret is to a long, healthy life, she'll tell you it's not one big thing - it's the small things you do every day that add up over time. And she would know. Dorothy will celebrate her 96th birthday on August 29 and she's showing no signs of slowing down. She's still exercising daily, socializing with friends, and encouraging others to do the same.
“The key to aging well is living a clean life, staying connected to people and refusing to become sedentary,” said Dorothy.“You don't have to be perfect. But do what you can.”
And she certainly practices what she preaches. On any given day, you can find Dorothy in the fitness center at Watersound Fountains, the retirement community where she lives, or attending group fitness classes with her friends and neighbors. She also enjoys getting to know her neighbors during meals and happy hours and attending classes and events at the community.
“She's a wonderful example of what it means to live an active, engaged and well-rounded life,” said Paula Zeller, executive director of Watersound Fountains.“At 96 years young, Dorothy reminds us that wellness isn't about perfection. It's about making choices each day that support your wellbeing.”
Dorothy's healthy choices begin the minute she wakes up. While she's enjoying her retirement at the community, she's typically up with the sun and stays busy around the community. She ends her days with a walk through the halls of the community after dinner to help aid her digestion and see her friends, of which she has many.
Dorothy was one of the first residents to move into Watersound Fountains when it opened in 2024. Since then, she has built friendships, participated in activities, stayed active and continued finding new ways to enjoy each day. Central to her wellness journey has been the community's 360Well program - a holistic wellness program that focuses on four interconnected circles: mind, body, spirit, and community.
