Israel Escalates Shelling Across Seven Towns in Southern Lebanon
(MENAFN) The Israeli military ramped up its bombardment of southern Lebanon on Friday, with artillery fire and explosions hitting seven towns across the Tyre and Nabatieh districts.
Lebanon's official National News Agency (NNA) said the strikes hit Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, Buyout al-Sayyad, Beit Lif and Srebbine in Tyre, along with Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Mayfadoun in Nabatieh.
In Tyre, artillery fire struck the outskirts of Beit Lif and Srebbine in the morning, following dawn shelling of Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and Buyout al-Sayyad. Israeli forces also set off explosions in Mansouri, the agency said, without elaborating.
In Nabatieh, Zawtar al-Sharqiya and the edges of Mayfadoun endured sporadic artillery fire. An Israeli Merkava tank shelled neighborhoods in Zawtar al-Sharqiya from the Mayfadoun direction, while repeated explosions and heavy machine-gun fire rang out near the town's western edge, sparking a fire in a nearby neighborhood.
No deaths or injuries were reported.
The barrage comes amid persistent Israeli escalation against towns across southern Lebanon, despite a Beirut-Tel Aviv agreement calling for a phased Israeli withdrawal under a US-mediated process. Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2, 2026 have killed more than 4,000 people, injured over 12,000 others and displaced more than 1 million, Lebanese authorities say.
Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon — some held for decades, others seized during the 2023-2024 war — and has expanded that footprint amid its ongoing offensive.
