Houthi Missile Strikes Yemen Restaurant, Causing Civilian Casualties
(MENAFN) A Houthi ballistic missile slammed into a restaurant west of Taiz province in southwestern Yemen on Friday, causing civilian casualties, according to state media.
A news agency reported in an urgent bulletin that the Houthis "targeted a restaurant in the Mokha junction area west of Taiz with a ballistic missile," adding that the strike caused civilian casualties without specifying numbers or the severity of injuries.
The Houthis have not commented on the report.
The strike followed a sharp military escalation in western Taiz on Thursday between government forces and the Houthis, marked by clashes, ballistic missile fire and drone strikes — among the fiercest fighting in Taiz since the UN-brokered truce of 2022, as the UN warns of a slide back toward wider conflict.
The Houthis have held Sanaa and other major cities since September 2014, while the internationally recognized government and allied forces control large swaths of the south, east and west.
