Israeli Troops Bar Aid to Palestinians Under 28-Day Siege

(MENAFN) Israeli troops on Friday stopped roughly 100 Israeli peace activists from reaching Palestinian families trapped for 28 consecutive days under military siege in Qusra, a town in the northern occupied West Bank, the Peace Now movement reported.

Israeli occupation forces have sealed off three Palestinian homes in Qusra since Aug. 9, barring residents from entering or exiting under the justification that the zone is a "closed military zone."

"Day 28 of the blockade on Qusra. About 100 activists arrived to deliver supplies to the besieged families," Peace Now wrote in a post on X.

"The army blocked us at first, claiming Qusra was a 'closed military zone.' Then let us in but on the way back detained us for 'violating a closed military zone'," the group added.

According to Peace Now, the commanding officer on site is now refusing to let any supplies through altogether — insisting the trapped families step outside to collect the aid themselves, even though soldiers are simultaneously blocking them from leaving their homes.

The blockade has unfolded alongside a broader crackdown around Qusra: closed roads, newly erected checkpoints and gates, and settler violence — fueling Palestinian fears of an engineered mass displacement.

Attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians and their property have surged across the occupied West Bank since Israel launched its assault on Gaza in October 2023.

Last month, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee branded Israelis carrying out West Bank violence against Palestinians as "terrorists," cautioning that such conduct is severely tarnishing Israel's global reputation.

Roughly 750,000 settlers now occupy 156 illegal settlements and 360 outposts across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and are frequently linked to violence intended to force Palestinians from their land, Palestinian officials say.

The United Nations classifies the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as occupied Palestinian territory and considers Israeli settlement expansion there a violation of international law.
