Trump: US May Strike Iran's Pickaxe Mountain Site "Very Soon"
(MENAFN) President Donald Trump said Friday the United States could hit Iran's Pickaxe Mountain facility "very soon," downplaying the broader confrontation with Tehran as "small potatoes" while confirming the US is conducting intermittent strikes.
Asked whether the standoff amounts to a war, Trump said he'd rather label it a "military conflict."
"A lot of people don't call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it's small potatoes for us. It's not a big thing," he told reporters in the Oval Office.
Trump said the US has carried out "intermittent strikes," claiming there had been no active combat for several days prior to a recent US strike on Iranian radar systems. "We're not fighting right now. There's no fighting," he said, adding that Washington is controlling traffic through the Strait of Hormuz while targeting Iranian military assets.
He claimed US forces had destroyed Iranian radar, aircraft and other systems guarding the waterway, and that minesweepers had cleared mines from the strait. Trump also asserted the US had halted Iran's path to a nuclear weapon, crediting the intervention with shielding Israel and the broader region.
"They're not going to have a nuclear weapon. That's what we did," Trump said. "Iran will not have a nuclear weapon because if they did, you probably wouldn't be standing here very long."
"We may hit Pickaxe very soon," Trump added, saying the US tracks "everybody that's moving at Pickaxe" and elsewhere in Iran.
Pressed on when the conflict might end, Trump declined to give a timeline but insisted the core objective had already been met. "We've already won the big thing: there's not going to be a nuclear weapon," he said, adding that even an immediate US withdrawal would leave Iran needing "25 years to rebuild their country."
