Ben Simmons Ends NBA Exile, Signs One-Year Deal With Kings
(MENAFN) Three-time All-Star Ben Simmons has agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Sacramento Kings, his agents told ESPN on Friday, marking the 30-year-old Australian's return to the league after sitting out the entire 2025-26 season while recovering from lingering back and leg injuries.
According to ESPN, Simmons traveled to Sacramento on Monday for an extensive medical evaluation and on-court workout before meeting head coach Doug Christie and other Kings staff. The report said the team expects him to back up rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. and contribute across several positions.
Simmons entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Louisiana State University, selected by the Philadelphia 76ers. He missed his rookie season with a foot injury before earning 2018 Rookie of the Year honors and three straight All-Star nods from 2019 to 2021, along with one All-NBA selection and two NBA All-Defensive First Team honors.
Injuries and other health setbacks have since disrupted his career. Simmons split last season between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, averaging five points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds over 51 games. For his career, he has posted 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.5 steals across 383 regular-season appearances.
