Netherlands Warns of Growing Generation of Young Cybercriminals
(MENAFN) Dutch police and prosecutors warn of a growing group of young cybercriminals operating through loosely organized online networks across Western countries, according to reports.
The individuals are generally between 11 and 25 years old and are primarily driven by financial gain and social status rather than political or ideological motives.
"These are individuals between the ages of 11 and 25," a senior Dutch police official responsible for combating cybercrime says.
"They mainly come from Western countries, speak English, work in a sort of online network, and primarily commit data and crypto thefts," he adds.
Authorities say law enforcement agencies previously concentrated much of their attention on cybercriminals operating from countries such as Russia, where Western investigators face limited access.
"Now we see that there are genuinely Western criminals on the way who are collaborating online and committing serious forms of cybercrime," the official says.
The latest assessment highlights a reported attack earlier this year targeting Dutch telecommunications company Odido, which is allegedly linked to criminals operating under the name ShinyHunters.
