Markey Secures Democratic Senate Nomination in Massachusetts
(MENAFN) Incumbent US Sen. Ed Markey wins the Democratic nomination in Massachusetts after defeating Rep. Seth Moulton in Tuesday’s primary, putting him on track to seek another full term in the US Senate.
With 96% of ballots counted, Markey receives 64.9% of the vote, while Moulton takes 35.1%. Markey will now face Republican John Deaton in the Nov. 3 general election after Deaton runs unopposed in the Republican primary.
Moulton gives up his bid for another term in the US House to compete for the Senate nomination, leaving an open seat in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District and attracting six Democratic candidates to the primary race.
Dan Koh emerges as the Democratic nominee after securing 41.1% of the vote with 96% of ballots counted. He will compete against Republican Micah Quinney Jones in November after Jones runs unopposed in his party’s primary.
Meanwhile, in the 8th Congressional District, 13-term Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch defeats Patrick Roath to retain his party’s nomination. With 94% of ballots counted, Lynch receives 55.2% of the vote compared with Roath’s 44.8%.
Lynch will face Republican Robert Gerald Burke in the November election after Burke runs unopposed in the Republican primary.
