Saudi Tanker Security Incident Kills Two Sailors in Strait of Hormuz
(MENAFN) Two sailors are killed during a security incident involving a Saudi oil tanker while it is traveling through the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, according to the vessel’s operator.
The Saudi national shipping company Bahri says its tanker SIDR is involved in a “security incident” at approximately 11:40 p.m. local time Monday while transiting the strategically important waterway.
“Two of our seafarers, both Filipino nationals, lost their lives as a result of this incident,” the company said.
Bahri does not disclose further information about what caused the incident or describe the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The shipping company says it remains in communication with the tanker and is working closely with relevant authorities and representatives of the maritime industry as it follows developments.
Bahri also emphasizes that protecting its employees remains its highest priority and reiterates its commitment to maintaining strict standards for safety, security and environmental protection.
The incident adds to growing security concerns surrounding commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
