Conditions For Ceasefire Unlikely To Emerge Before Spring 2027, Budanov Says

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov said this in an interview with the US newspaper The New York Times, according to Ukrinform.

Budanov said that talks mediated by the Trump administration were expected to resume by late September, several days after Russia's parliamentary elections and several weeks before the US midterm congressional elections in early November.

According to him, the process is expected to restart with a visit to Kyiv by Steve Witkoff, the administration's peace envoy, and Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law.

It is noted that although Witkoff and Kushner have traveled to Moscow several times, they have not been to Kyiv yet, despite multiple official invitations.

Budanov believes that although talks could resume this month, conditions for a ceasefire are unlikely to emerge before spring 2027.

“Negotiations will sooner or later come to something. You cannot fight your whole life,” he said.

As reported, the latest round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia took place in Geneva on February 17–18.

In July, President Volodymyr Zelensky had a meeting with Witkoff and Kushner, during which the sides discussed ways to intensify diplomatic efforts to bring peace closer.
