UK Reaffirms Unchanged Position On Falkland Islands
London, Sept. 4 (Petra)-- The British government on Friday reaffirmed that the United Kingdom's position on the Falkland Islands remains "firm and unchanged," following renewed calls by Argentine President Javier Milei for his country to reclaim sovereignty over the disputed South Atlantic islands.
The UK Prime Minister's Office said in a statement, cited by the BBC, that Britain's position on the islands remains unchanged, stressing that they "will remain a British Overseas Territory" as long as the islanders wish it to be so.
In a 2013 referendum, Falkland Islanders overwhelmingly voted to remain a British Overseas Territory, with 99.8 percent voting in favor and only three votes cast against.
