Agriculture Minister Follows Up On Forest Fire Between Ajloun, Jerash
Amman, Sept. 4 (Petra)-- Minister of Agriculture Saeb Abdel Halim Al-Khreissat conducted a field follow-up on a fire that broke out in forested areas in Al-Safsafah, located between the governorates of Ajloun and Jerash.
Civil Defense personnel, the Royal Jordanian Air Force and forest rangers, with support from the relevant authorities, succeeded in extinguishing the fire and bringing it under control in record time.
In a statement issued Friday, Al-Khreissat said the Ministry of Agriculture continuously monitors fires that break out in forested areas and responds to them directly and swiftly. He noted that measures taken by the ministry in recent months have contributed to reducing the number of forest fires compared with the same period in previous years.
He said the measures include clearing forests of dry and fallen branches and vegetation, particularly along forest edges and roads leading to them, as well as creating firebreaks inside forests to help limit the spread of fires and facilitate their rapid containment.
Al-Khreissat said the fire affected approximately 26 dunums and damaged forest trees, mainly juniper and oak. He praised the efficiency of firefighting and forest ranger teams in dealing with the blaze despite the dense vegetation and the challenging terrain.
The minister commended the efforts of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, the Public Security Directorate, Civil Defense and forest ranger teams in Ajloun and Jerash for their significant efforts in extinguishing the fire and bringing it under control within a short period.
He stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation among all relevant authorities to protect and preserve Jordan's forest resources.
