Trump's Triumphal Arch Excavation To Start In Two Weeks
Burgum announced on X that,“after a very long wait (over 125 years!), we are preparing to start, over the next two-week period, the excavation work necessary for the Great Triumphal Arch and Military Observation Deck, at Memorial Circle on Columbia Island between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.” He described the project as one of the“Great Pieces of American Architecture” that will honor the history and significance of Arlington Cemetery and be“befitting the most powerful Capital in the World.” However, the New York Times reports that the monument is still awaiting federal review. The decision to proceed with the work is controversial, as legal requirements mandate at least 14 days' notice in a legal filing before construction can begin.
President Trump first showcased a model of the monument in October 2025, informing CBS News that the arch is dedicated to himself. He aims for his arch to stand 250-feet-tall, surpassing the height of Paris's Arc de Triomphe. This news follows the U.S. Supreme Court's recent approval for Trump's plans to construct a luxury ballroom with an underground military complex beneath the White House. In late August, the court authorized the White House ballroom construction to proceed, with a temporary stay issued by Chief Justice John Roberts. Trump stated on Truth Social,“The Military/Ballroom Complex being built on the hallowed grounds of the White House, which is so vital for National Security, will be THE GREATEST OF ITS KIND! It is something that Presidents have wanted for 150 years, and that the Military has been seeking for the last 100 years. Their wish will soon be fulfilled!”
