Bengal CID Files Charge Sheet Against Former Trinamool MLA In Salboni Land-Grab Case
The 14-page charge sheet was submitted before the Medinipur Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court and names Sujoy Hazra, Anitesh Pariya, Kailash Agarwal, and Sharafuddin Khan as accused in the case. According to the CID, Agarwal and Khan are currently absconding.
However, the omission of Sumit Roy, personal assistant to Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, from the charge sheet has triggered political discussion in the state, as his name had figured prominently during the investigation of the case.
It was during the probe into the Salboni case that Roy's name had first surfaced. Earlier this year, personnel from Salboni Police Station, along with Kolkata Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), conducted search operations at the residence of Abhishek Banerjee while looking for Roy.
Sources said the matter is currently under consideration before the Supreme Court. The CID has sought permission from the court to continue its investigation against Roy, arguing that his custodial interrogation is necessary. The Medinipur CJM Court has granted the request. State police sources indicated that the agency is likely to file a supplementary charge sheet at a later stage, which may include Roy's name.
It is learnt that in the 14-page charge sheet, a total of nine sections have been cited, which include forgery, misappropriation of government property, and fraud involving the falsification of various government documents, including those related to the state land & land revenue department.
Sujoy Hazra is scheduled to be produced before the Midnapore Court on September 17.
