Mizoram CM Directs Strict Use Of Legal Provisions To Unearth Graft

(MENAFN- IANS) Aizawl, Sep 3 (IANS) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday directed officials to strictly utilise the provisions of law to detect and curb corruption and other malpractices.

The Chief Minister urged the officials to carry out every investigation without fear or favour. Emphasising the necessity of inter-departmental synergy, Lalduhoma added that he has directed all government departments to extend their full cooperation.

The Chief Minister on Thursday inaugurated the "Training-cum-Workshop on the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988," organised by the Vigilance Department for the Mizoram Lokayukta, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), and the Mizoram Police.

While addressing the programme, the Chief Minister stated that out of a desire to establish a transparent and clean government, the administration has moved swiftly to strengthen the Lokayukta; sanctions have been accorded for the purchase of new vehicles for the ACB, and vehicle entitlements have been granted to Lokayukta Inquiry Officers.

The Special Incentive Allowance previously provided to ACB personnel, which had been discontinued due to financial constraints during the Covid-19 pandemic, has been restored, as well as extended to Lokayukta inquiry officers, he stated.

Lalduhoma added that necessary funds have also been provided to support their Anti-Corruption campaigns. The Chief Minister noted that although significant infrastructural and material support has been provided, the skill, wisdom, and dedication of the personnel remain paramount, which is also the reason why the Vigilance Department organised this training and workshop.

He emphasised that the law vests Inquiry Officers with extensive authority, which must be utilised strictly within legal bounds to uncover graft and malpractice.

Lalduhoma urged them to carry out every investigation without fear or favour. Emphasising the necessity of inter-departmental synergy, he added that he has directed all government departments to extend their full cooperation.

Acknowledging their good work, the Chief Minister also observed that there are still several pending inquiries and cases, urging the officials to continue putting forth their best efforts. He further conveyed his appreciation to the Vigilance Department for organising the programme.

Chief Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer Khilli Ram Meena, in his address, outlined the purpose of the workshop. He noted that sharpening the skills of anti-corruption personnel will enhance their capabilities, enable swifter action, and foster greater motivation and teamwork.
