HYDERABAD, Sept 3 (NNN) -- The uncertainty arising from global conflicts is affecting every economic sector, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.

"Today, the world is going through a period of great upheaval. Conflicts continue to persist in many parts of the world," he said, speaking in New Delhi at a joint media event with visiting Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever.

"Whether it is food, fuel, or supply chains, every sector is being impacted by uncertainty," he said.

The two leaders called for dialogue and diplomacy to end the Ukraine-Russia war, now in its fifth year, and resolve the conflict in West Asia.

De Wever is the first Belgian prime minister to visit India in 20 years.

India and Belgium signed several memoranda of understanding to boost cooperation in several areas and agreed to step up cooperation in the defence and semiconductor industries.

They welcomed the conclusion of negotiations for the India-EU free trade agreement in January this year and sought an early end to the talks on the EU-India investment protection agreement, as well as a deal on geographical indications of goods.
