Ukrinform To Present Commanders Of Victory Book At Lviv Book Forum

Among the figures featured in the book are current Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pavlo Palisa, Commander of the Bakhmut Ghosts sniper platoon Oleksandr“Ghost,” Head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Oleh Ivashchenko, Commander of the National Guard Oleksandr Pivnenko, and Commander of the Ukrainian Land Forces Hennadii Shapovalov.

The book aims to document the testimony of Ukrainian military commanders who are directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine war and make critical decisions on the battlefield, preserving their stories for future generations.

A distinctive feature of Commanders of Victory is that the entire book-production process – from preparing and editing the journalistic materials to design, layout and prepress – was carried out by the Ukrinform team. For the agency, this represents a new way of working with its own journalistic content and preserving it in book form.

The publication contains original autographs from the project's subjects, along with handwritten quotations reflecting their personal life mottos. Another distinctive feature is a bookmark decorated with a spent shell casing. It was made by Ternopil volunteer Olha Konoval, the wife of fallen Hero of Ukraine Serhii Konoval.

The book is illustrated with unique photographs taken by Ukrinform correspondents, including images from the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia fronts. One photograph by the agency's photojournalist Dmytro Smolienko – a picture of sunflowers – was included among the 100 best photographs of 2025 by the U.S. magazine Time.

During the presentation, the agency's team will talk about the creation of the book, from the initial concept and preparation of the materials to design and printing. The discussion will also focus on the role of the media in documenting the Russia-Ukraine war and preserving the testimony of those directly involved in it. One of the Commanders of Victory featured in the book, whose name has not yet been disclosed, will also attend the event.

The special guest of the presentation will be Honored Artist of Ukraine, serviceman and lead singer of the band Antytila Taras Topolia, who will perform an acoustic set.

As reported by Ukrinform, the agency is publishing Commanders of Victory, bringing together more than 20 stories of Ukrainian commanders and their units. The book is based on interviews published by the agency over the course of a year.
