Sharjah Islamic Bank And Rubu' Qarn Advance Financial Awareness Among Youth Through Practical Learning Programme
(MENAFN- Mid-East Info)
The 2026 programme targeted 40 participants aged between 14 and 18, comprising 20 members of the Sharjah Children Shura Council and 20 participants from Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah. Delivered separately to each group over three days, the programme combined interactive sessions, practical workshops and real-life simulations covering self-leadership, financial management, saving and investment, banking awareness and protection against financial fraud. The initiative reflects SIB's approach to developing financial literacy from an early age through content tailored to different stages of young people's development. It builds on the Bank's collaboration with Rubu' Qarn in 2025, when 10 financial awareness workshops reached 250 children aged between 9 and 12 across Sharjah Children centres. Hassan Al Balghouni, Head of Corporate Communications and Customer Awareness at Sharjah Islamic Bank, said:“At SIB, we view promoting financial awareness among younger generations as an important part of our social responsibility and our commitment to empowering the communities we serve. Financial awareness is an essential life skill that becomes increasingly valuable as young people begin making more independent decisions. Through our collaboration with Rubu' Qarn, we aim to introduce financial concepts in a practical and age-appropriate way that young people can relate to and apply in their daily lives, helping build a generation that is better prepared to manage their finances and make responsible financial decisions.” Nour Khalid Al Hammadi, Director of Rubu' Qarn Life Skills Center, said:“At Rubu' Qarn Foundation, we believe that empowering new generations goes beyond acquiring knowledge. It also involves developing the skills that enable them to take ownership of their lives and make informed decisions. Through our collaboration with Sharjah Islamic Bank, we provided participants with a practical experience that strengthens their ability to set priorities, manage their resources, and plan responsibly for their financial future.” The programme was delivered over three days, covering self-leadership and future planning, practical financial management and responsible investing, and essential banking awareness. Participants developed skills in setting priorities, managing income and savings, using banking and digital services responsibly and protecting themselves against financial fraud. A key element of the programme was its emphasis on practical application. In the“Set Your Priorities” workshop, participants applied the Eisenhower Matrix to 20 scenarios reflecting everyday situations related to education, family, personal development, social media, entertainment and financial planning. The exercise demonstrated how effective financial decision-making is closely connected to managing time, priorities and personal choices. Participants also took part in a financial simulation titled“You've Graduated and Started Working... How Will You Manage Your Salary?” They were presented with a hypothetical monthly salary of AED 24,000 and challenged to develop a financial plan for the first three years of their careers. Through the simulation, participants navigated a range of real-life decisions related to income allocation, savings, expenses, and planning for future goals, enabling them to see the direct financial impact of their decisions and choices. Across the 2025 and 2026 initiatives, the collaboration has reached a documented total of 290 children and young people, reinforcing the shared commitment of SIB and Rubu' Qarn to supporting financially aware and responsible future generations. An impact assessment survey was also conducted as part of the 2026 programme to evaluate participants' understanding of the concepts presented, their experience of the practical workshops and their readiness to apply what they learned. The findings will help inform the continued development of future financial awareness initiatives.
