ACT Says It Sets 2Nd Consecutive Monthly Record With 104,000 Teus

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - The Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) said it had handled more than 104,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August, setting a monthly record for the second consecutive month despite ongoing regional trade disruptions.

The terminal said in a statement that it handled 58 vessels during the month, surpassing the 100,000-TEU mark for the second month in a row.

In July, ACT handled a record 101,900 TEUs, the statement said.

Transit trade also remained strong for the third consecutive month, exceeding 20,000 TEUs in August, including more than 10,000 TEUs destined for Iraq.

Imports recovered significantly during the month, reaching 36,000 TEUs, while gate movements exceeded 43,000 truck trips. More than 35,000 of those trips involved import cargo deliveries.

ACT said that the August results reflected continued coordination with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the Ministry of Transport and key supply chain partners.

The cooperation helped reduce yard occupancy and maintain smooth vessel and truck movements throughout the month,” the terminal said.

ACT Chief Executive Officer José Rueda attributed the performance to the dedication of the terminal's workforce and the application of global operational practices by APM Terminals.

He said the measures helped maintain the quality and reliability of services expected by customers.
