Prime Ministry Holds Third AI For Government Leaders Workshop

Amman, Sept. 3 (Petra) -- The Prime Ministry held the third workshop of its six-month Artificial Intelligence for Government Leaders program on Wednesday, targeting secretaries-general and directors-general from ministries and government institutions across several sectors.

The program is implemented by the Jordan Academy for Government Administration in partnership with the "Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Economic Development and Employment" project, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. It is jointly funded by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union.

Opening the workshop, Bashar Kilani of the National Council for Future Technology said Jordan's digital infrastructure provides a basis for expanding the digital economy, stressing the importance of an enabling environment for startups.

Kilani reviewed several initiatives undertaken by the Council over the past year in government services, healthcare, and education.

He said an updated version of the Sanad application was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and other government institutions, with more than two million digital identities activated. The platform also provides electronic payment services, allowing users to complete some government transactions without visiting public offices.

Sanad has reached the final stage of the 2026 Digital@UNGA Awards organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Kilani said additional services, including "Sanad for Business," "Sanad for Health," and "Sanad for Tourism," are planned.

In education, he highlighted Siraj, an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to provide students and teachers with answers based on official school curricula, as well as the Ajyal platform, which uses AI to provide data on schools, teachers, and examination results.

Kilani also stressed responsible and secure data use and the role of senior government officials in ensuring data quality and accessibility.

The workshop included a presentation by Audit Bureau Secretary-General Ahmad AlSawai on the Bureau's approach to using AI in oversight and auditing, including related implementation challenges.

The program covers six areas: AI fundamentals for decision-makers, responsible AI governance, institutional readiness, AI-enabled government services, innovation ecosystems and public-private partnerships, and the broader economic impact of AI.
