Abu Safiya Reports Continued Abuse, Threats in Israeli Detention
(MENAFN) Palestinian doctor and detainee Hussam Abu Safiya, who heads Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, says Israeli prison guards continue to physically assault him, intentionally disrupt his sleep and threaten him to prevent him from discussing his detention conditions with his lawyer.
Abu Safiya makes the allegations in a new account delivered through his attorney, according to reports.
Israeli authorities have held Abu Safiya without charge or trial since December 2024.
During a meeting with his lawyer on Aug. 30, he reportedly says “prison guards continue to assault him, punching and kicking him and beating him with batons across his body, including sensitive areas.”
“He also reported being deliberately deprived of sleep through persistent noise and loudspeakers used throughout the night,” according to the statement.
A written account submitted by his lawyer says “he was assaulted following his previous attorney visit and warned not to speak about the conditions of his detention.”
Abu Safiya makes the allegations in a new account delivered through his attorney, according to reports.
