Ukraine Finalizes Drone Deal with Germany to Boost Defense Cooperation
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv is completing the final wording of a new “Drone Deal” with Germany following a phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
During their discussion, the two leaders address last month’s drone incident at Leipzig Airport, which Germany officially attributes to Russia and describes as "another Russian escalation."
Zelenskyy says Merz updates him on steps Berlin has taken in response to the incident. He adds that Ukraine is prepared to support Germany by sharing its expertise, battlefield experience and assistance in other areas where Berlin may require it.
"Our teams are already finalizing the text of the Drone Deal, and this will, among other things, definitely provide both Germany and Ukraine with additional defense capabilities," Zelenskyy says, adding that they also discuss the agreement’s details and possible timing for its signing.
The Ukrainian president says he and Merz also agree to hold an in-person meeting. He thanks the German leader for Berlin’s "steadfast support and leadership in protecting the lives of Ukrainians."
"There will be new air defense packages from Germany this month," he adds.
Ukraine has reached similar “drone deals” with several other countries in recent months as Kyiv seeks to expand cooperation on security, defense and drone technology.
