Iran Takes over Foreign Barge Over Alleged Diesel Smuggling


(MENAFN) Iranian authorities seize a foreign-flagged barge in Gulf waters on Wednesday after allegedly discovering around 382,000 liters of smuggled diesel fuel aboard the vessel, according to reports.

The operation begins after security forces receive information about petroleum products being illegally transported on a barge operating in the northern Gulf.

Iranian border guards based in Abadan intercept the vessel and confiscate the reported 382,000 liters of diesel, according to authorities.

Eleven foreign nationals traveling aboard the barge are also detained. Their nationalities are not immediately disclosed.

Iranian authorities do not provide further official details about the incident at the time of the report.
