Trump Says US Controls Strait of Hormuz After Strikes on Iranian Boats

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump says Iran must be prevented from acquiring a nuclear weapon, arguing that previous American military action stopped Tehran’s nuclear program before it could be completed. He also claims that US forces now have control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In a phone interview published Wednesday, Trump says: "If we didn't do it, Iran would have ... a nuclear weapon."

He recalls the US deployment of B-2 bombers during last year’s strikes, saying: "If we didn't send in the B-2 bombers a year ago to blow up their nuclear capacity, you know ... they were two weeks away from having a nuclear weapon," he said.

Trump warns of severe regional and global consequences if Iran obtains a nuclear weapon, arguing that "a nuclear weapon, Israel would be gone. The Middle East would be gone, and they would be hitting cities in the United States, absolutely, because they're crazy."

Addressing the latest US military operations, Trump says: "We're doing very well. We're just annihilating them, but the bottom line on that is very simple: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon."

He also claims that American forces have established control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz after targeting Iranian vessels.

"We now control the Strait of Hormuz. We control it. Last night, we took out 28 boats, 28 ships. We control it. They get nothing, and we took out ships."
