Iran Denounces US Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure
(MENAFN) Iran condemns the latest US military strikes carried out late Tuesday, claiming that attacks on civilian locations and essential infrastructure kill and injure dozens of people and urging the United Nations to address what Tehran describes as breaches of international law.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry says US forces target civilian areas and service facilities, including communications towers and related sites, across Khuzestan, Sistan-Baluchestan, Hormozgan and Kerman provinces, according to reports.
The ministry says the strikes result in civilian deaths and injuries while also causing damage to both public and privately owned property.
It further claims that a US strike hits a wedding ceremony in Kohestak, located in Sirik county of Hormozgan province in southwestern Iran, killing and injuring more than 70 people, most of them women and children.
Iran condemns the attacks as “war crimes” and says they breach fundamental rules of international law.
The ministry adds that Iranian forces respond “in self-defense” by targeting US military bases that Tehran describes as “the source and support for the attacks against Iran.”
Iran also calls on countries across the region to stop the US from using their territory and facilities to organize or launch attacks against the country, warning of what it describes as attempts to create “permanent insecurity” throughout the region.
