APAC CEO Tyler Kim Leaves Weber Shandwick After 17 Years

(MENAFN- PRovoke) SEOUL - Tyler Kim, the APAC CEO of Weber Shandwick, has left the agency after 17 years, bringing to a close a tenure that saw him establish its Korean operation before ultimately rising to lead the firm across Asia-Pacific.

“After 17 years with Weber Shandwick, I leave deeply grateful for the people, friendships, and experiences that shaped my time with the firm. From establishing the Korea business to leading Asia Pacific, it was a privilege to work alongside talented colleagues and build something meaningful together," said Kim when PRovoke Media reached out.

Kim joined Weber Shandwick in 2009 after previously leading Edelman Korea, launching the agency's Korean operation as a one-person office. Under his leadership, the business grew to more than 100 people and became one of Weber Shandwick's strongest operations in the region.

His remit expanded beyond Korea in 2018, when he was named North Asia managing director with responsibility for Korea and Japan. That year, Kim was also named to PRovoke Media's Innovator 25 Asia-Pacific, recognising his role in building Weber Shandwick Korea and expanding the agency's digital, content and integrated marketing capabilities.

Kim was elevated to Asia-Pacific vice-chair in 2020, while retaining his North Asia leadership and regional crisis roles. The expanded remit also saw him oversee Weber Shandwick's outbound business strategy for Asia-based clients.

A year later, Kim was named Asia-Pacific CEO, succeeding Baxter Jolly and taking charge of a regional operation then worth around $120 million. Under Kim's regional leadership, Weber Shandwick continued to expand across Asia-Pacific, with PRovoke Media naming the firm its Asia-Pacific Large Regional Consultancy of the Year in 2024. That year, the agency recorded 8% revenue growth in Asia, led by North Asia, Greater China and Singapore.

Kim's departure comes amid a wider restructuring of Omnicom's public relations operations following its acquisition of Interpublic Group.

In May, Omnicom Public Relations named Joanne Wong CEO of OPR Asia-Pacific, overseeing all of the group's PR agency brands in the region. OPR subsequently unveiled a new Asia-Pacific leadership structure spanning market, growth, strategy, analytics, creative, reputation and specialist sector leadership across Weber Shandwick, FleishmanHillard, Golin and Ketchum.

Kim's exit also follows Darren Burns' decision to step down as Asia-Pacific president of Golin Ketchum last month. Burns and Kim were previously part of Weber Shandwick's regional leadership team together, with both serving as Asia-Pacific vice-chairs before Burns left the firm to lead Golin in 2020.
