Former Dutch Officials Urge Stronger Measures Against Israel
(MENAFN) More than 230 former Dutch government officials call on the Netherlands to adopt tougher measures against Israel over its actions in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
The group, which includes former ministers, ambassadors, diplomats and civil servants, urges the government to impose a comprehensive arms embargo and suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
In a letter to Dutch authorities, the former officials argue that measures already introduced, including restrictions on goods originating from illegal Israeli settlements, do not go far enough given the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
They call for additional steps "that are proportionate to the seriousness and extent of the violations in question."
Among the signatories are former politicians Job Cohen, Jozias van Aartsen, Jan Pronk and Ahmed Aboutaleb, along with former diplomat Angelique Eijpe.
The group also demands an investigation into potential involvement in international crimes by Dutch and Israeli citizens living in the Netherlands who have served in the Israeli military.
The Dutch government maintains that any measures against Israel should preferably be coordinated and implemented through a broader European framework.
