Jordan Names Majdi Al-Harasis as New Army Chief
(MENAFN) Jordan appoints Maj. Gen. Majdi al-Harasis as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, replacing Gen. Yousef Huneiti following his retirement from the position after nearly seven years.
A royal decree takes effect Sept. 2 and formally assigns Harasis to lead the armed forces. Another decree elevates him from brigadier general to major general.
At the same time, two royal orders promote Huneiti to the rank of general and officially place him in retirement.
King Abdullah calls on Harasis to continue modernizing and restructuring Jordan’s armed forces while improving their readiness to confront emerging challenges and threats with maximum effectiveness.
Huneiti has led the Joint Chiefs of Staff since July 2019 and becomes the first Royal Jordanian Air Force officer to serve as the country’s top military commander.
