Kishtwar Rape-Murder Case: Crime Branch Raids Accused's Home

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The Crime Branch on Wednesday raided the residence of the prime accused and his brother in the rape-and-death case of a 15-year-old tribal girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar, while authorities terminated the services of a second sanitation worker from the district hospital in connection with the case.

The case was handed over to the Crime Branch on August 29 following widespread protests and condemnation over the incident.

According to officials, the minor was allegedly raped by her school teacher over several months before she died during a pregnancy termination procedure on August 20.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested seven people so far, including the main accused, his brother, two hospital sanitation workers and a nurse.

The arrests were made in connection with an FIR registered at Chatroo police station under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Officials said the Crime Branch teams searched the residences of the prime accused and his brother as part of the ongoing investigation. The searches were aimed at collecting evidence and examining material that could help establish the sequence of events and the alleged involvement of those accused.

In a related development, the services of a Hospital Development Fund (HDF) sanitation worker at District Hospital Kishtwar were terminated with immediate effect following her arrest in the case on August 30.

The termination order cited the“extremely grave and serious” nature of the allegations and offences, saying her continuation in service was incompatible with the discipline, integrity, reputation and functioning of a public health institution.

The latest developments come amid heightened scrutiny of the case and the alleged role of hospital staff in the circumstances surrounding the girl's death.
