J&K Misses Deadline To Clear Rs 55 Cr Power Dues

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir has missed the six-month deadline it had sought to clear outstanding power-related dues of around Rs 55 crore, prompting the Northern Regional Power Committee (NRPC) to push for immediate payment.

The issue came up before the committee after the Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC) informed the forum about long-pending dues owed by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL) under the Deviation Settlement Mechanism (DSM) and Ancillary pool accounts.

During an earlier hearing on December 3 last year, J&K had sought six months to clear the outstanding amount, following which the commission had reserved its order. With the promised period now over, the NRPC has directed J&K representatives to take up the matter with senior officials of JKPCL and expedite the clearance.

The Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) has suggested that the Rs 55 crore outstanding amount be cleared at the earliest, along with regular payments in accordance with the applicable DSM regulations.

The matter also follows a direction from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) requiring JKPCL to clear the outstanding dues along with applicable interest or surcharge and maintain the requisite letter of credit.

The dues relate to charges managed through the Northern Region Pool Account, including deviation charges, Reactive Energy Charges and Congestion Charges, under regulations framed by CERC.
